For those of you using the argument that Nolan and Smith have won the most championships and therefore are the best duo, I have disagree and say that there is certainly more that goes into being the best duo than simply winning championships. First of all, Nolan and Smith may have more championships, but they have only won two championships TOGETHER, which is still impressive but not something you can really use to compare to other duos. For example, Taurasi and Pondexter have also won two championships TOGETHER, Lauren Jackson and Sue Bird have won one championship together.

As talented as any of these duos are, we have to remember that whether or not you win a championship is not dependent on whether you have the best duo in the WNBA, but on whether you have the best TEAM in the WNBA. Just as Taurasi and Pondexter certainly need Penny Taylor, Temeka Johnson, Tangela Smith, and other key players to win a championship, Nolan and Smith have certainly benefited from the great play of Cheryl Ford, Plenette Pierson, and Taj McWilliams Franklin in their two championships together. The 2003 championship only had Deanna Nolan on it, and you have to remember that Ruth Riley, not Deanna Nolan (or Katie Smith, who wasn't on the team), was named Finals MVP. I could go on and on about this, but we definitely can't say that the number of championships won should determine who is the best duo. Even if we do, Nolan and Smith have only won TWO championships together, which is still a great accomplishment, but nothing more than what Taurasi and Pondexter have done.

All in all, everyone has their own opinion on who is the best duo in the WNBA. No one can definitively say one duo is better than another when it comes to all of the great duos that have been mentioned. My pick, though, has to go to Taurasi and Pondexter. I have never seen two players have such a great dynamic on the court together and work so well together to take over a game. They are two of the most clutch, passionate players to ever play, in my opinion.

For me a duo in basketball is with a post player and a guard. So first in my mind comes LJ and Sue. Than maybe Becky and Ann, although due to SASS policy on doing no LiveAccess videocasts I haven't watched that many SASS games.

Why are you posting here then?  The WNBA Fan Voice forum is for fans who love the WNBA, not the NBA.  A lot of fans here don't have any interest in the NBA.

Diana & Cappie.  There is no other duo in the WNBA that even comes close.

Taurasi and Pondexter can dominate any defense! When one of them isn't producing the other one steps up and delivers. Without one of them Phoenix wouldn't have won the championship this past year. They are clearly the best duo in the game in my book.

Taurasi and Pondexter remind me of Jordan and Pippen back in the Bulls championship days.Candace and Lisa are the WNBA's version of Kareem and Magic. And the Sparks could have been Showtime Part II if all five Olympians were able to be in the lineup together from the time Candace returned all the way through the postseason.Unfortunately with Lisa missing eleven games due to injury, and the other up and downs the Sparks endured, things didn't work out that way.Nolan and Smith are definitely right up there too. Those are my top three.I think Becky and VJ are the "Stockton and Malone" of the WNBA.LJ and Bird remind me more of Duncan and Robinson.

Yes, Nolan and Smith are the most successful duo on the list. But the question was not "Who is the most successful, in terms of winning championships, duo in the league?" It was "Best Duo in the WNBA?" and when you compare Jackson and Bird, or Pondexter and Taurasi to Nolan and Smith, it really is no contest.
