I love the Draft! It is one of my favorite days each year. It is a day of dreams fulfilled and hopes realized, with families sharing in the joy and satisfaction of accomplishment.
The WNBA has grown up with these girls as they have grown up with us. We have seen them play and develop their skills on ESPN2 and have watched their programs grow. At the same time they have seen us as a driving force to work harder, dig deeper and strive toward the goal of becoming a WNBA player.
I value the first in-person meeting that takes place at the Draft, whether it is on the stage or somewhere behind the scenes. I’m looking forward to getting to know our newest players and welcoming them into an effort that is still unfinished. I will remind them that they are walking on the shoulders of pioneers and setting a path for those to come after them as well.
